Attempts to measure and describe the three-dimensional character of the solar corona by means of eclipse photography are discussed. K-coronameter and high resolution photography have proceeded for 15 yr at the High Altitude Observatory. The K-coronameter is an internally occulted photoelectric polarimeter with an f/11 singlet lens 23 cm in diameter. Data are recorded on magnetic tape for reproduction of digital images by computer. The HAO camera has an f/15 four element lens with a 11.1 cm diameter operating at 6400 A. A radially graded filter compresses the range of brightness from the inner portion of the corona out to three or four radii from the limb. The instruments were used in Siberia during an eclipse of July 31, 1981, when a 104 sec exposure using the radially graded filter, in addition to a coronagraph at 1.7 radii, were taken. The next opportunity for eclipse photography will occur in 1991.
