On the basis of analytical solutions obtained for a blast wave propagating from a point source in a moving medium with variable density, a discussion is undertaken of important characteristics of flare-generated shock waves propagating in the solar wind. The 1 AU region is found to be a transitional one encompassing several important effects on the shock waves. The equivalent power of shock wave deceleration is a function of solar wind velocity, shock wave energy, shock propagation distance, and convective effects of the solar wind. Attention is given to Pioneer 10 and 11 observations.
