The influence of physical effects (such as stream velocity field, ellipticity of the velocity tensor, temperature gradient) on observed velocity dispersion profiles is reviewed. A new method, using the usual projections and inversion techniques, is given in order to recover the spatial velocity dispersion profile. Application to the Coma cluster leads to the following description: a central steady configuration extending over 2 Mpc (Hubble constant equal to 75 km/sec per Mpc), and a collapsing region up to approximately 10 Mpc. The maximum infall velocity is approximately 1250 km/sec at approximately 3.5 Mpc, which is fully compatible with theoretical infall velocity profiles derived for large radii and reasonable values of the cosmological density parameter.
