Rotational lines of the 0-0 vibrational band of the B 2 Sigma u + - X 2 Sigma g + electronic transition of the C2(-) ion has been sought in the spectrum of the hydrogen-deficient carbon star HD 182040. Significant wavelength coincidences were not found. The possibility that photo-detachment of C2(-) is a significant opacity source in the blue-violet region of cool carbon stars has not been eliminated by the lack of detectable C2 lines in a relatively hot carbon star.
