An electric field parallel to the magnetic field line in the pulsar magnetosphere leads to the pulsar wind. We explain difficulties to establish a model with a consistent electric field. If there is a proton counterflow in the magnetosphere, it can provide an anode to make such an electric field. In addition, the proton counterflow is suitable for reproducing bright radio emission from pulsars.
