Interstellar linear polarization observations with a degree of polarization precision of approximately 0.00007 are undertaken for about 180 stars within 35 pc. Upon combination with the results of Piirola (1977), the present study establishes that: (1) dust content within 35 pc of the sun yields as low a visual extinction as 0.002 mag or less; (2) the polarizations are consistent with a uniform magnetic field throughout the 35 pc sphere observed; (3) evidence is found for a region with a highly regular field whose distance is less than 20 pc, and has an angular extent of 30-60 deg; (4) six stars in the sample are unsuitable for zero-polarization standards; and (5) F O and later-spectral type stars are suspected of intrinsic linear polarization at the 0.0001 level, with this polarization appearing to be variable in time.
