Differences found in the periodic variations of emission line intensities and radial velocities of three S-type symbiotic stars, BF Cyg, CI Cyg, and AX Per, suggest that significant differences in physical conditions and geometry may occur in these systems. In CI Cyg, the widths of minima can be explained as being due solely to the eclipse by the cool giant, while in the other systems, additional sources of opacity or other mechanisms of variations are necessary. BF Cyg has a different energy distribution in the UV spectrum from that of AX Per and CI Cyg, and its nebular excitation energy is lower.
