The possibility of observationally checking the orbital-period shortening and mass-energy loss of the pulsar PSR 1913 + 16 is examined. The procedures for checking the mass-energy loss are described. It is determined that an improvement in the accuracy of the observed values of the orbital period's rate of change and the associated uncertainity allow for the distinction between the orbital-period shortening caused by self-energy losses and that caused by gravitational-radiation losses.
