Spectographic observations of the flashes of light emitted by burning iron flakes produced by a grinding wheel (triboluminescence) are presented and implications for observations of astronomical bodies are discussed. Low-dispersion spectra of individual flashes of light were obtained using a slitless grating spectrograph with a long collimator and a camera with a short focal length. The flash emission spectra obtained from a carbon steel are identified with various Fe I, N2, CN, CH, and C2 lines in addition to the previously observed FeO band. Similarities between the obtained spectrum and some meteor and cometary spectra are indicated, as well as those with the luminescence of circumstellar dust shells.
