Biennial variations of cosmic rays in the lower atmosphere were examined on the basis of mean monthly data obtained at several Soviet stations at different isobaric levels. Both vertical and global fluxes of cosmic rays were considered and an attempt was made to reveal the influence of biennial variations on the nucleon component of cosmic rays. Two types of biennial variations were revealed; (1) variations in the stratosphere and having an energy spectrum close to that of 11-year variations and (2) variations in the lower atmosphere.
