Evidence is presented for a possible link between the physical conditions in individual large sunspots and the occurrence of X-ray bright points. For the period 1970-1978 a close correlation is reported between the infrared intensity of large sunspots and the number of X-ray bright points. It is pointed out that the well-known dynamo theory for sunspots, in its present form, is unable to explain the observations.
