The altitude and latitude dependences of the zonal wind speed were determined from Venera-15 and -16 radio occultation measurements for the atmosphere of the Venus northern hemisphere at latitudes from 67 to 84°. At high latitudes in the northern hemisphere there exists a jet whose axis lies at an altitude of about 60 km at latitudes 73 - 75°; the wind speed on the axis reaches 100 m·sec-1. The results are compared with zonal-wind data for the northern hemisphere as determined from Pioneer Venus orbiter radio occultation measurements. The spatio-temporal stability of the atmospheric zonal circulation and the difference in the zonal circulation in the northern and southern hemispheres of Venus are discussed.
