The paper investigates the consequences of relaxing the requirement that gas in spherical accretion flows obeys the fluid dynamical equations. It is found that for a large range in gamma (the ratio of specific heats) the flow has a collisionless inner core. This allows the accretion rate to be unambiguously determined. The resulting flows are on the subsonic branches of Bondi's solutions.
