It is shown that the eclipse explanation of the dip observed in the light curve of V603 Aql is unlikely to be correct. Two alternative models are proposed (one in terms of variable mass transfer and one in terms of a reflection or heating effect on the side of the secondary facing the primary). The observational consequences of these models are discussed.
