An analysis is presented of the number-absolute-magnitude distribution for an enlarged sample of 461 spectroscopically identified white dwarfs. The relation between (B-V) and M is recalculated. The results are that: (1) according to the comparison of the observed and the theoretical luminosity function, the theory of crystallization of the white dwarf is still uncertain; (2) the H-R diagram of the white dwarf is shown and there seems to be a complete sequence of white dwarfs; and (3) the appearance of the different spectral type for white dwarfs depends mainly on the difference in temperature and internal mixing degree. It is likely that white dwarfs may evolve from early spectral type to late ones.
