We discuss the nature of various flavors of Lyman-alpha (lya) emitting objects at high redshift. We provide a brief overview of lya\ radiative transport, giving particular consideration to polarization, and discuss the requirements to obtain net polarization on the emitted radiation. We present and discuss the current status of lya\ polarimetric observations, focusing on a single resolved Lyman-alpha blob at a redshift of 3. Finally we discuss some future prospects and further possible application of lya\ polarimetry, and similar methods for different galaxies.
