There is evidence that the arms in spiral galaxies may be formed, partly
at leas out of ejected gas from the central region. From this suggestion
we formulate an elementary theory for the formation of spiral arms based
upon the gravitational interaction between the ejected matter and the
central mass of the galaxy.
