The polarization parameters of the radiation from a tidally distorted star in a close binary system and the radiation of the star scattered by the accretion disk are calculated in the approximation of pure Thomson scattering. The two effects are of the same order of magnitude, and the amplitude is comparable with the percentage optical polarization observed in Cygnus X-1. The depth and profile of the auxiliary minima in the light curve that might result from occultation of the star by the accretion disk are calculated.
