Slit spectrograms (230 A/mm dispersion) and objective-prism spectrograms (160 A/mm dispersion at H-gamma) of the peculiar emission-line object HM Sge are analyzed which were obtained in the wavelength range from 3600 to 8000 A. Identified emission-lines are listed, along with central intensities, equivalent widths, and some absolute intensities. No substantial variations in the line intensities were detected during the observational period. The absolute continuum energy distribution is determined, and an interstellar absorption curve in the direction to HM Sge is plotted. After allowance for interstellar absorption, the continuum of HM Sge is interpreted on the basis of a model of a dense gas cloud surrounding a hot star. A best-fit model for the continuum of HM Sge shortward of 6400 A is given which involves an exciting-star temperature of 50,000 K, and electron temperature of 10,000 K, and an electron density of at least about 1 million per cu cm.
