U, B, V photometry of 17 Thetis in July-August 1977 confirms that irregular light variations induced by rotation are present. The opposition effect is detected. Comparison of the wavelength dependence of its amplitude with similar data for Mars and the lunar regolith suggests that transparent crystals or glass spherules may occur on the surface of Thetis, as is the case on the moon.
