The behavior of the perturbations in a force-free magnetic field caused by adiabatically slow deformations is investigated. In the linear approximation, for a rather wide class of boundary conditions in a force-free field depending on only one coordinate, singular lines of force of surfaces will appear on which the plasma displacement formally becomes infinite. Accordingly, the problem of quasi-steady deformation of a frozen-in field has no solution. For the solar corona, this result implies that changes in the magnetic field, such as those due to photospheric motions, should in general lead to the development of current sheets.
