The structure of the gas responsible for the forbidden emission lines in the spectrum of the nucleus of the Seyfert galaxy NGC 1275 is established from analysis of all available data on the relative line intensities. On the whole the structure agrees with that of the radio source in the nucleus, as derived from very long baseline interferometry. The phenomena occurring in the nucleus cannot be explained by sporadic ejection of individual structures from the nucleus followed by adiabatic expansion.
