On its approach to comet 9P/Tempel 1, the Deep Impact Impactor spacecraft took a series of white-light images, with ever-increasing resolution, of the nucleus of comet Tempel 1. These Deep Impact images have been combined and enhanced in various ways to provide us with the first highly-detailed, high-resolution imaging of the surface of a cometary nucleus, which has led to new and exciting glimpses of the unexpected processes at work on cometary nuclei. Combining these images into a movie provides the visual sensation of riding the Impactor down into the surface of the comet, while providing us with high-resolution, contextual imaging of the surface of the nucleus. This work has been supported by NASA through the Deep Impact mission and the EPOXI mission of opportunity.
