Astrometric plate measurements are reported which confirm the large proper motions discovered by Luyten (1963, 1971) for the Herbig-Haro objects H-H 28 and 29. The proper motions of six other very young objects in the same field are also measured and found to be smaller but in common with each other. Possible explanations for the large tangential velocities (about 145 km/s) of H-H 28 and 29 are considered, including the possibilities that the two objects could be 'searchlight spots' moving on the surface of the associated dark cloud as a result of a peculiar star's shining through two gaps in a moving dust screen and that the objects might be ionized regions surrounding a wide pair of hot subluminous field stars moving at high velocity through the dust cloud.
