The H I-distribution around the galaxy M 101 has been studied with high sensitivity (reaching a surface density of about 10 to the 18th atoms/sq cm). The H I-distribution extends to about 200 kpc diameter, which is 3.6 times the Holmberg diameter. In contrast to the highly disturbed H I-distribution in the inner parts of this galaxy, the integrated H I situated in the outer parts seems to be rather symmetrically disturbed. Some features in the velocity field suggest IVC-phenomena associated with M 101.
