A comparison is made of broad-band photometry of the Homunculus (ground-based) with the broad- and narrow-band photometric data of the central region (HST-based), obtained from 1998 to 2003. Our investigation shows that, apart from the extreme brightening of the central region in 1998 and 1999 (which is probably due to a fast decrease of temporary excess-extinction in front of this area) the Homunculus and the central star varied in a similar way. Such behaviour excludes the existence of any measurable smearing-out effect including light-time effects in the Homunculus due to reflections. Except, perhaps, for the variable UV radiation originating in the equatorial plane, modulated by the 5.5 yr binary period.
