For most of the lifetime of the Hubble Space Telescope (HST), it has not been possible to observe Sirius B spectroscopically at visible wavelengths due to the overwhelming scattered light contribution from Sirius A. However, as the separation between the two stars is becoming larger we have been able to obtain a spectrum of the complete Balmer line series for Sirius B. This is the first such spectrum to be obtained, apart from old ground-based photographic spectra, and can be used to provide an important determination of the stellar temperature and gravity.
