High-proper motion surveys are still adding much to our understanding of the local white dwarf population. The New Luyten Two-Tenths (NLTT) catalog contains a large number of high-proper motion white dwarf candidates that remain to be spectroscopically confirmed. We have extracted spectra from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey for some of the white dwarf candidates, and we have obtained spectroscopy of additional candidates at Apache Point Observatory. We discuss the properties of this sample of white dwarfs, including a kinematical study.
