We present a corrected analytical solution which describes the phase mixing of harmonic Alfvén waves propagating in divergent magnetic fields. Contrary to the original solution, the corrected general solution shows that the phase mixing of Alfvén waves is strongly enhanced by diverging magnetic fields. This result has implications for the heating of divergent solar coronal loops.
