The Baldwin effect, the negative correlation between the equivalent width of emission lines and continuum luminosity, is investigated for a sample of low-redshift quasars in terms of an accretion disk model. The inclination angle of the disk is estimated using the observed ultra-violet and X-ray luminosities, assuming that the X-ray luminosity is isotropic. The fitting of the model leads to the conclusion that the Lyα emission line radiation originates in both clouds around the central source and the accretion disk surface. The model predicts that this Baldwin effect should be more pronounced in lower mass objects, as the contribution of the disk component increases with increasing mass.
