The creation of the "Centre Régional de Télédétection des Etats de l'Afrique du Nord" (CRTEAN) in October 1990 reflected the will of its different member states to have a structure for coordination and exchange of know-how, and also for validation of existing capabilities in the sub-region in the fields of remote sensing, GIS, mapping and their applied activities. The organisation of the CRTEAN, its missions and its programme of activities illustrate CRTEAN's continuous mandate to assure a useful and efficient complementarity in the above fields for the benefit of its member states and associated members.
