Cyclic and shorter-period variations of local (sunspots) and large-scale solar magnetic fields during the past ~30 years are analyzed. It is concluded that in the solar interior there are two partially interconnected and spatially separated magnetic-field generation systems with fundamentally different properties. This result brings out one of the crucial factors explaining the failure of dynamo models of solar cyclicity to properly describe experimental data.
