Young Solar mass stars accrete material from surrounding circumstellar discs for a period of a few million years, after which the discs are dispersed in a brief, poorly understood epoch. I discuss the observational evidence for disc dispersal, and outline some of the theoretical mechanisms that have been advanced to explain it. The implications of the timing of disc loss for stellar angular momentum regulation are also summarized.
