Single photon heating events of small dust particles result in strong temperature fluctuations and an emission excess in the mid and near infrared with respect to large grains in thermal equilibrium. With an extension of the grain size distribution to smaller grain sizes (between 6 Å and 50 Å) and considering single photon heating events it is possible to describe a number of objects which show this excess. As an example the infrared emission of Abell 58 was successfully modeled.
