Black Holes: Accretion Disks

The effect of the Blandford-Znajek process on the evolution of the inner radius of a black-hole accretion disk is investigated in detail separately for thin and thick disks. It is shown that the rate of change of the inner radius will change from negative values into positive values when the dimensionless angular momentum of the central black hole evolves past a critical value. Although the minimum value of the inner radius appears at the outer boundary of the ergosphere of the Kerr black hole, the inner radius will inevitably evolve into the ergosphere.
