We present preliminary results concerning the search for variable stars in two HST/ACS fields in the far outer disk of M 31 (R ˜ 26 kpc). From deep, multi-epoch photometry reaching the oldest main-sequence turn-offs, we detect ˜50 candidate variables. In each field, we identify a dozen or so as RR Lyrae stars, plus a few eclipsing binaries and long-period variables.
