We obtain the exact expression for the holonomy transformation, for a
circle, that corresponds to the most general cylindrically symmetric
metric. In a particular case that corresponds to solutions of the
combined Einstein-Maxwell field equations for this metric, a discussion
about the gravitational Aharonov-Bohm effect is given.
