The spectral characteristics of protons with energies of 0.3-50 MeV are analyzed on the basis of data obtained with the Cosmoc-900 satellite in circular polar orbit at an altitude of 500 km in magnetically quiet and substorm periods beyond the trapping boundary at night. Conclusions are drawn as to the contribution of solar protons to the high-energy portion of the energy distributions. The data are compared with spectral measurements of protons in the magnetotail and existing models for the generation and propagation of particles in the magnetosphere.
