By the time of the AAS meeting, the SIRTF mission will be more than four months past launch. SIRTF is a technical and scientific precursor for JWST. I will discuss key performance aspects of SIRTF, such as the effectiveness of its radiative cooling, to indicate how they affect confidence in the ultimate success of JWST. I will also give a high-level overview of some of the very early SIRTF science results that may set the stage for future more detailed investigations with JWST.
