The hypothesis is explored that SiO masers in late-type giant stars may be associated with the magnetospheres and orbital wakes of Jovian planets, with the vaporization of rocky satellites adding SiO molecules. What would happen to the solar system if the sun became a Mira variable is examined. The hypothetical results are compared with available observations, and predictions are made regarding observable, long-time variations in the positions and velocities of maser sources.
