We briefly discuss the current capabilities of optical interferometry and its potential to increase our understanding of AGB-stars for such important questions as convection, pulsation, dust formation and mass loss. We then present dynamic model atmospheres for carbon stars and analyze the predicted intensity profiles and visibilities in terms of fits with uniform disks and the current accuracy of visibility measurements. Finally we mention the prospects for real imaging by optical interferometry.
