SS 433 is an X-ray binary and one of the prototypes of the class of microquasars, small scale systems with relativistic, radio emitting jets. We performed long-slit moderate dispersion spectroscopy of SS 433 in the poorly studied blue spectral range. The spectra were obtained at the optimal time to observe the mass donor star, i.e., at disk precessional phases when this star is above the extended disk and at inferior conjunction.
We will demonstrate the high correlation of absorption lines found in the system with a mid-A spectral type. The behavior of the observed lines is consistent with an origination in the SS 433 system. We will discuss the possible origination of these lines from the mass donor star as well as several alternatives. The impact of various models on the mass ratio of the system as well as on the masses of the individual components will also be presented.
