Cosmological hydrodynamic simulations suggest that nearly one half of the baryons today may be in a warm-hot intergalactic medium (WHIM). Detection (non-detection) of the WHIM would have several profound implications, pertaining to the baryon content of the universe, the gravitational instability picture and galaxy formation. I will give an overview of the physics of the WHIM and suggest possible ways to search for it.
