Expressions for the probability per unit time of the emission of a Langmuir wave by both massive and massless neutrinos moving in a medium are derived using finite temperature field theory. A comparison between this process and the analogous emission from an electron is made, and possible implications of this process to the explosion mechanisms of type II supernovae are briefly discussed.
