This paper will summarize results from a spectroscopic survey of a volume-limited sample of 23 nearby galaxies selected on the basis of nebular emission in their nuclei. Data acquired with STIS on the Hubble Space Telescope have been used to quantify emission-line and continuum spectroscopic properties in apertures a factor of ˜ 100 smaller in area than typical ground-based apertures. Results bearing on the power sources of low-luminosity AGNs, the spatial extent of recent nuclear star formation, and the stellar populations in galaxy nuclei will be presented.
