A spectrometer placed in a balloon gondola at an altitude of 40 km over Texas was employed to provide data in the stellar UV spectrum, i.e., stars with a surface temperature of at least 10,000 K. Attention is given to chemical abundances in young stars, e.g., Procyon, revealed by an absorption line analysis. Also studied, by way of comparison with other stars, are the solar wind characteristics of the sun. The expansion of stellar envelopes around giant stars is examined, together with observations of binary and variable stars.
