General-relativistic kinetic theory is utilized to discuss the characteristics and evolution of the Robertson-Walker and Petrov G4 VIII cosmological models. The form of the distribution function for a collisionless gas satisfying Liouville's equation is found from a knowledge of the Killing vectors which describe the symmetries of the space-times. For the isotropic and homogeneous cosmology a specific example of an equation of state which evolves as a function of the radius of the model is given, while for the space-time classified in the Petrov groups as a G4 VIII the kinematic properties are analyzed and a demonstration is presented that the distribution function leads to an imperfect fluid.
