The glorious years of discovery in radio astronomy in the Cavendish
Laboratory, Cambridge were dominated by the personality of Martin Ryle.
The contact to the theorists, in the Observatories only a short distance
away, were occasionally strained. Personal experience from this era
will be the subject of this contribution.
