Scientific paper
Mineralogical, petrological, and chemical data concerning the less commonly collected lunar ultramafic and acid rocks are reviewed, and genetic speculations are considered. It is suggested that the mantle dunites aged approximately 4.5 b.y. were probably formed during the period of planetary differentiation by crystallization. It is proposed that acid products were produced mainly by liquation of residual melts which accumulated during the fractional crystallization of basaltic magma.
