The intensities of TiO alpha-system absorption-band heads observed in the spectra of 14 oxygen-sequence red giants are compared with intensities computed on the basis of model atmospheres. It is found that the oxygen/carbon abundance ratio for the observed set of M giants is less than the solar value. The effective-temperature scale for M giants is discussed.
